Kat Von D Beauty Lock It Foundation

Hello Party People!
This review was long overdue since August as I bought this and have been wearing this foundation for over 2 months now and I have some thoughts. I wanted to try it out completely before putting a review out here so I did.
I'll start off by saying that I have a few pros and cons that I will list so you can make your informed decision.
Starting off with the packaging , I will get into the formula ,  application , staying power and coverage , cost and where you can buy it followed by a few pictures to show you just how well it photographs.
Kat Von D is a brand exclusive to Sephora owned by tattoo artist Kat Von D.
The foundation comes in a gorgeous bottle with a pump , it's an airless chamber packaging which means it's not your average pump packaging , it is an airless chamber that won't introduce any air into the formula which means it remains good for longer than your average foundation and you will not be wasting any product while pumping it out. KVD also gets it right with her packaging.

The formula is VERY very thick! It does not budge once pumped out and has a very thick consistency. It has an amaaaazing coverage and can cover tattoos , acne scars , spots , blemishes , literally anything. It is great for photography , it photographs beautifully!!! Better than the Makeup For Ever HD. If you have dry skin like I do , you do not need to set it with powder. If you have oily skin , setting with a layer of powder will elongate the wear for you, depending on your preference. It does not budge once its on and it dries fairly quickly so once you dot it on , blend it quickly as it sets fairly fast. The formula is BEST suited for oily or even normal skin types. I do have dry skin but I like this on my skin as it has a satin matte finish and leaves a tiny bit of satin finish but is leaning more on the opaque matte side and I love the coverage so I sprirtz my face with some of my MAC Fix Plus after putting it on to make it a little more dewy. It takes half a pump to cover my entire face (and my face is pretty huge soooo). It comes in 20 shades in different undertones neutral, warm and cool. I lean on the warmer side in the shade Medium 52. I personally am not a huge fan of the final finish but the pros outweigh the cons for me as It doesn't need setting with powder , no setting spray , powder products lay beautifully on top of it and it covers so damn well! It stays put without powder for 14+ hours. I wore it in a rainy day and it got exposed to a little water but held up for probably 15 hours and at the end of the day , looked just as good as when I put it on. It's unbelievable how good it holds up in hot/rainy/humid weather. This is everything in a bottle if you have issues with your makeup sliding off your face!

Here are a few pictures one taken with flash and 2 taken in natural lighting :

If you do have dry skin , I still do recommend it as I am a dry skin girl and have worn it for special occassions as well as photography and it photographs like a dream! It can look cakey on oily skin very fast if you use more than a pump and can seem congested and tight on dry skin tones but the staying power is worth all the struggle. A little does go a long way and you can mix it in with your sheer to medium coverage foundations if you feel like it's too much for your dry skin.

Pros :
Full coverage
15+ hour staying power
budge proof
Doesn't need setting

Cons :
Can feel tight on dry skin
Dries out skin
Can look cakey if over-applied.
Can be hard to blend on areas like around the nose or lips.
Can break apart on oily skin or cake up in certain areas

It retails for Australian $50 here in Sephora stores and online. It costs in the 30 dollar range in the States. You can buy it in Sephora here as it is a sephora exclusive brand.

HudaBeauty Textured Rose Gold Palette

Heeeeey people! Im writing after soooo long and I feel so relieved doing what I love to do post school stuff! SO jumping straight in , today's post is all about the IG hyped OG palette : Hudabeauty rose gold textured palette! I'm pretty sure you have seen it floating around your IG.
It is created by makeup vlogger/blogger Huda Kattan who is absolutely GORGEOUS. She started selling mink lashes and branched into lip products and this palette. She is launching a new palette this month and I cannot wait to get it so I figured I post my review on this before it's discontinued. She's my woman crush so I had to get this palette and it took me a hot minute , My sephora never had it in stock. So i had to order it straight from shophudabeauty.com , her site and pay an arm and a leg for the shipping and the customs. The customs kill me. But I wanted the palette so bad even after getting my ABH Modern Renaissance which has all your burgundies and warm tones in it that I went ahead and got it! And I have to say it's stunning! It comes with 18 shades , a mix of mattes shimmers and metallics in warm toned shades. There is just one cool toned shade in here the rest are just your gorgeous standard warm tones oranges reds browns golds!

The whole top row consists of foiled 3D metallics that I haven't seen ever before in any palette before that Ive owned but they are not my favourite part of the palette. They tend to skip areas while applying with finger as given in the instructions by Huda and I've had this palette long enough to say that they do separate after youve had the palette for a long time , in the pan. The shade rose golf , fling and #blessed are my favourite ones in the palette but I don't use the rest as they are drier than the ones mentioned and skip in certain areas so they apply patchy. You can surely make them work though with gentle pressure and maybe sponge tip applicators but another thing to note here is that they wear off as chunks of glitter on the face and don't really live up to the claims of being long wearing.

Alright next to the mattes , let me start off by saying that they swatch bad, they swatch thin and patchy but with a fluffy blending brush and with a base down they blend beautifully on the eyes, especially the lighter shades. They blend seamlessly into the crease and the shades Maneater , Henna , Bossy and Black Truffle are absolutely stunning! Maneater is my favourite in the palette as a matte and blends just as good as you would expect from a good quality shadow to. These mattes are pigment packed but they are a little bit of a drier formula than some other shadows like ABH , who make creamier , dustier and softer shadows. Huda's shadows are very stiff and more on the dry side so they don't kickupp a lot of product when you dip your brush in , and the brush does pick up a nice decent amount of product. The dryness of mattes doesnt interfere with the performance of the shadows on the eye though , it would however help if you laid a base down of a corrector or concealer or a shadow primer and set it with a layer of powder or white bone coloured shadow so the shadows glide on easier , free of patchyness or problem areas. I do like the mattes!

The palette contains a third texture , the shimmers. These are your basic shimmers that you see in every palette but I have to say , these perform better as an all over lid shade than the metallics as these can be picked up with a brush , laid down precisely and don't chunk off or skip. The shade angelic is my ride or die all over lid shade with a little bit of moondust in the center of the lid. Angelic is such a gorgeous colour , it deffo is my favourite shade in the palette in general. It will be seen again in her new palette which Im SO excited for!!!

One thing to keep in mind is that even if you do apply this with your finger as instructed because the metals share different formulas , they apply differently. some are notorious and dont apply smooth even with your finger , dry or wet. Also please do not wet your finger before going in the shadow as it sortof ruins the texture of the shadow and makes it more creamy, than of a powder consistency.

These are all the shades as described by the brand followed by my 2 cents on them :
DUBAI  is a dark golden brown with olive undertones and a 3D metallic finish. It had little to no fallout and was creamy and had good application.
FLING is deep red burgundy almost a cranberry shade with warm undertones , It is a 3D metal and is my favourite out of the metallics.
24K is a true gold metallic and can be patchy or skippy on the lid as it is not as user friendly as the other metallics. It can be worked with some pressure on the fingerpads.
ROSEGOLD is the centre of attention of this palette but sadly I like it less than fling and some other ones as it skips and creases and has the most glittery fallout with chunks , as compared to the rest of metallics so I dont reach for it a ton.
TRUSTFUND is a copper brown 3d metal and it applied better than rose gold but can emphasize texture as it is of a thicker consistency.
ANGELIC is gorgeous.. Its a cool pink with some gold sparkles in there. Its sheer and not as intense , definitely works better sprayed with some MAC fixplus or setting spray but it is beautiful no complaints!
#BLESSED is a dark golden copper  metallic and is a thicker consistency again. It swatches well but is harder to put on evenly on the lid. Just use more pressure with your finger on the lid to get an even application and you should be good. It dint have bad fallout or chunkyness.
BOSSY is a plum with warm undertones matte finish and is gorgeous!! It is slightly powdery but not too much , it has amazing pigmentation and blendability! I love it for the crease or detail work.
FLAMINGO is a cool toned barbie pink. It is a fun pop of colour to put in the crease and is fairly pigmented however it can be easily overshadowed by other colours as it is lighter in colour and thin in texture.
SHY is a beautiful muted pink warm transition shade with a sheer texture perfect to start off a look and is not powdery or too dry. Decently pigmented as well.
BAE is a cream coloured , yellow based white , good for all over eye for setting primer or for blending shades in. It was sheer due to the colour probably and doesn't show up too well on the eye so probably best used for browbone or setting.
MOONDUST is a warm peachy gold champagne shade. It performed decently as a highlight shade on the lid , inner corner or the browbone. It is sheer and drier than angelic but the pigment is still there.
BLACK TRUFFLE is a matte black that isnt the best matte I have ever tried as it was sheer and dry in texture but I dont like my black shadows to be too pigmented or difficult to work with so I dont mind a sheer pigmentation.
SUEDE is a neutral taupe shade with even pigmentation and surprisingly good payoff and blended easy on the eye. I think it is a great transition shade.
COCO is a brown with red warm undertones and was decent in pigmentation and texture but a little harder to blend on the outer V as a darkener. I do however like how it wears on the eye with a primer or base. None of these shadows work on bare eyelids so keep that in mind.
MANEATER is gorgeousness. It is evenly pigmented , easy to blend out , and wears well on a base! I love the berry toned colour and it works great if youre into cranberry eyes.
HENNA is a gorgeous warm shade with orange undertones and great colour payoff! It blended easily and was one of the best out of the mattes.
SANDALWOOD is a muted light brown warm undertones. It was sheer in texture but applied nicely as a transition! It worked great with other colours and blended in pretty easily.

My final thoughts are that I do think it is slightly overpriced for the quality but I do like the shadows. If I want to go for a berry eye , I opt for this one over my ABH MR as it is less powder and I like stiffer textures in shadows. It was Limited Edition and will be gone soon so whether or not to buy this comes down to personal preference and your taste in eyeshadows. If you're buying this for the metals alone , dont bother as you can do the same effect by using glitter with some glitter glue. If you want this as an everyday warm toned palette You will like it as your everyday essentials are in here and they work decently well.
It retails for US$65 and Australian$95. It is an investment and pretty pricey compared to palettes that usually range between 60-80 dollars here in Australia. It has 18 gms of product in here and you get almost a gram per shadow.
